America 250 · A course on criminality

Civilization is a finished penalty.

A country that feeds, clothes, and schools the hard offender for decades, and then sometimes sends him back, has already begun to fall. The crime keeps its time in the harmed. The penalty has to be swift, severe, and done.

The American Warrant
Lesson 01 of 08 · America 250

Lesson 01

Civilization exists only when the penalty is finished.

Civilization is a people keeping a place where ordinary life can go on in the light. It is not a mood, and it is not a charity toward the man who destroys that place. It stands when criminality is met with a penalty that is swift, forceful, and severe, and when the penalty is then carried out.

A country falls when sympathy for the offender becomes the way it governs. The sympathy is called mercy. In practice the hard criminal is fed, clothed, and schooled for decades, and sometimes sent back. The people he harmed keep the injury for the rest of their lives. That weakness is not kindness. It is how a civilization gives its grounds away to evil and to the camp that excuses it.

In America the people are the state. They decide the grade. After they decide, they allow the state to function. Hesitation after a true judgment is not a higher justice. It is a smaller government, undoing the one the people already spoke.
